An existing building was post war bungalow sitting at the bottom of a ravine that only runs underground. We reused the foundation and masonry of the existing building and added 2 more stories to design this low carbon/ low energy multigenerational home. We successfully worked through the Committee of Adjustment process to more than double the size of the home. we worked with an experienced sustainable contractor Greening Homes and used a specialitst water proofing/ foundation team, Watertite, to keep the basement dry despite existing high water table. Our clients had such a committment to the environment throughout the project that Greening Homes organized a whole day earth plaster event to ensure our clients were moving into a finished home. 17 volunteers ensured that the whole house had a natural plaster finish.
