What began as a request for a simple two-storey rear addition evolved into a full reimagining of how this home lives, breathes, and performs.
On the main floor, we opened up the kitchen, dining area, and powder room—transforming them into a bright, connected space anchored by soaring ceilings and a seamless transition to the backyard deck. By carefully stepping the addition down, we not only strengthened the indoor–outdoor relationship but also amplified natural light and spatial flow. Exposed steel beams lend a crisp architectural rhythm, while floor-to-ceiling triple-glazed windows flood the space with daylight and dramatically improve energy performance. A restrained palette of modern cabinetry and durable concrete flooring adds both warmth and longevity.
Upstairs, the renovation introduces a calm, light-filled primary suite complete with a generous ensuite and thoughtfully integrated storage, alongside a refreshed main bathroom—creating spaces that are as functional as they are restorative.
Several years later, we returned to unlock the full potential of the basement. By lowering and insulating the slab, we achieved comfortable ceiling heights while significantly improving thermal performance. The result is a highly efficient lower level that includes a new laundry room, full bathroom, ample storage, and a dedicated workout space—proof that no square foot needs to be overlooked.
At every stage, sustainability guided the design. Enhanced insulation, improved airtightness, and high-performance glazing work together to reduce energy demand while elevating year-round comfort. This is a home that doesn’t just look better—it feels better to live in.
