What is Double/Take?
Double/Take is a passion project that takes a second look at Ontario's existing housing stock. We have started in Barrie’s east side because of the larger property sizes that suit the gentle density without compromising on quality or privacy.
The original 1960s brick bungalow has great bones but was designed for a past generation and needed both aesthetic and energy-efficient updates. Except for the original main structure, every aspect of the home was completely updated, including 100% new electrical, mechanical, roof, windows and doors. The house is now divided into two gracious dwelling units.
Two units occupy the original bungalow, while a standalone garden suite provides additional private living space. Each dwelling has access to private gardens, fostering connection to outdoor space while maintaining separation and privacy.
This project embodies everything we’ve learned over 35 years: efficient layouts, natural materials, and flexible design. The result is perfect for young couples entering the housing market, multigenerational families, or investors seeking high-quality, sustainable rental spaces.

Main Unit
Step into this spacious 1,500 sq ft upper unit, thoughtfully designed for modern living. The open-concept layout seamlessly connects the living, dining, and kitchen areas, perfect for entertaining or everyday life. The kitchen is a showstopper, featuring a large island with elegant waterfall quartz countertop. Retreat to the main bedroom complete with a private ensuite and walk-in closet. Eight thoughtfully placed windows fill the home with natural light, while a private backyard space provides the perfect outdoor retreat.


Garden Suite
This versatile 800 sq ft garden suite is ideal as a two-bedroom home or a live-work retreat. The open-plan layout brings together kitchen, living, and dining areas, complemented by a large laundry room. Cathedral ceilings soar up to 16 ft, and a 12 ft by 12 ft wall of glass with sliding doors connects you to a private deck and garden. A dedicated loft space houses storage and HVAC, ensuring every inch is functional and stylish.
